Community Funding & Support

What Martin Memorial Supports

Martin Memorial recognizes its responsibilities to lend financial and in-kind support to endeavors that improve community health and welfare in Martin and St. Lucie counties. To that end, we support and provide community funding for programs such as:

Volunteers in Medicine Clinic
Martin Memorial, along with the Martin County Medical Society and the Martin County Public Health Unit, helped to establish the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic in October 1995. This clinic provides free primary medical care to residents of Martin County who are below the 200 percent poverty income level, and who do not have private health insurance, Medicaid or Medicare.

Martin Memorial Health Systems provided the original facility for the VIM Clinic and paid a small staff who assisted in recruiting volunteer physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals to run the clinic. The Martin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary donated $310,000 to remodel and relocate the clinic to its current location, and Martin Memorial Health Systems additionally provided initial operating costs and administrative assistance.

Martin Memorial Health Systems now supports the clinic by providing access to laboratory, diagnostic studies and ancillary programs such as cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, physical, occupational and speech therapy, dietary counseling, and monitored exercise programs.

Charity Care
Every year, Martin Memorial provides charity care for patients who cannot afford treatment. In 2008, $26.5 million in charity care was provided.

Sponsorships
Martin Memorial provides sponsorships to organizations such as:

  • American Cancer Society
  • American Heart Association
  • American Red Cross
  • Helping People Succeed
  • Komen Foundation
  • Volunteers in Medicine Clinic

Please read our sponsorship policy to learn more about the support Martin Memorial provides and how to apply.

Sponsorship Policy

Martin Memorial Health Systems provides community support and funding based on the following policy.

  1. Purpose
To provide guidelines for corporate contributions, including sponsorships, to Martin County and St. Lucie County organizations, projects and initiatives.

  2. Definitions
In-kind support: Equipment, supplies, promotional items, volunteers, administrative services (e.g., printing and graphic design).

  3. Policy
Recognizing its role as a corporate leader in Martin County and St. Lucie County, and the inherent responsibilities to lend financial and in-kind support to endeavors that improve community health and welfare, Martin Memorial Health Systems will support appropriate programs and organizations through community funding that directly support Martin Memorial’s mission and vision and raise awareness of health system services.

  4. General Considerations

    • Consistent with its mission as a not-for-profit provider of health care services, Martin Memorial Health Systems recognizes its responsibility to manage its resources prudently and responsibly.
    • Martin Memorial Health Systems community funding should provide meaningful and measurable results.
    • Contributions should support efforts to improve the health and quality of life within Martin County and St. Lucie County.
    • Contributions made should remain in the geographic area of Martin County and St. Lucie County and support local programs and services.
    • Priority consideration will be given to those organizations and programs that:
      (1) Promote the health and well-being of the community;
      (2) Use the sponsorship dollars provided by Martin Memorial to leverage greater fundraising efforts (e.g., money used to print raffle tickets that will be sold to raise more money).
    • Requests for support must be received in writing accompanied by the Request for Community Funding form by June 1 to be considered for the following fiscal year beginning October 1. All requests should be sent to Landy Tiffany in the Marketing Communications Department (see contact information below). Requests received after June 1 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
    • The following requests may not be considered for charitable support:
      (1) Administrative or operational support
      (2) Annual fund support
      (3) Athletes or athletic events
      (4) Capital campaigns
      (5) Individuals
      (6) Labor or fraternal groups
      (7) Political campaigns, candidates, parties or partisan activities
      (8) Programs outside of our service area
      (9) Sectarian, denominational or religious organizations for support of theological functions
      (10) Solicitations on health system properties
    • Requests that fall in to the above categories may be reviewed on a case by case basis by the Vice President of Marketing Communications.

  5. Responsibility
The community-funding budget will be prepared by the Marketing Communications Department, and will be a line item in their budget. A budgetary figure for community funding will be established during the budgetary process for each fiscal year.

Martin Memorial Health Systems’ involvement in sponsorship activities/events will be coordinated through the Marketing Communications department. Opportunities for speaking engagements, attendance/participation at events, etc. will be jointly reviewed by the Vice President of Marketing Communications, the CEO and members of the executive leadership team as appropriate.
