What to Expect

Your doctor will refer you for care at the infusion suite. Once you are referred, you can schedule your appointment by calling (772) 223-5922.

If it is your first time receiving an infusion, it may take longer because we will want to monitor you for toxicities or hypersensitivity before, during and after your treatment. Chemotherapy treatments are scheduled so that they will be done by 4 p.m. The infusion suite can administer those chemotherapy treatments that take seven hours or less to complete.

Blood transfusions and gammaglobulin require an 8 a.m. start time. Blood typing and crossing must be completed by Martin Memorial staff the day before the transfusion to make sure blood is available for you on the morning of your transfusion. Gammaglobulin must be prescribed by your doctor and approved by the pharmacy before the infusion suite can administer it. If you need an immediate transfusion, it can be administered at one of our two hospitals, Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart, or Martin Memorial Hospital South in south Stuart. Your doctor will call Central Scheduling to arrange for an immediate transfusion.

If you are receiving intravenous or intramuscular antibiotics every 12 hours, you can receive your first dose of the day in the infusion suite, which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and then schedule your second dose at one of our two hospitals.
