Preparing for My Hospital Stay

Before Your Hospital Admission

Before you enter the hospital for surgery, a number of preparations will be made via phone including:

  • Surgeon’s office will schedule your surgery and pre-admit phone call visit.
  • Surgeon’s office will get approval from your insurance provider if needed.
  • The pre-admit department will contact you via phone at the time your surgeon’s office scheduled the phone call appointment. Please have available all your medications with dosages, your medical and surgical history. You will be instructed to take a pre-op shower and given instructions on what medications to take the morning of surgery. Please have a pen and paper available to write down your instructions. If you have any questions for the pre-admit department, write them down ahead of time to help you remember. The department is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,and is closed on holidays. Please call (772) 223-2840 for more information.
  • Your labs and diagnostics will be done prior to surgery. The surgeon’s office may give you a prescription to get your labs/diagnostics done. If they have not, pre-admit can help guide you to the nearest location to fit your schedule. Sometimes you may need additional testing done; pre-admit will guide you as to the nearest location to fit your schedule.
  • The admissions department will also be calling you to update your demographics and insurance. You will be informed of your deductible, co-insurance or co-pay. Use this time to ask any questions you may have, including financial arrangements.
  • Arrange to have a family member or friend pick you up and bring you home the day you will be discharged. If you need transportation, please ask us how we can help.
