The following physicians of the Ocala Heart Institute provide surgical and anesthesiology services:

F. Michael Crouch, M.D.

F. Michael Crouch, M.D., Cardiovascular, Thoracic & Vascular Surgeon
Dr. Crouch is a native of North Carolina and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He attended Bowman-Gray Medical School at Wake Forest. He completed both Vascular and Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowships at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dr. Crouch is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

James C. Thornton, M.D.

James C. Thornton, M.D., Cardiovascular, Thoracic & Vascular Surgeon
Dr. Thornton is a native of Ohio and graduated with honors from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from The Ohio State University School of Medicine. Dr. Thornton completed his General Surgery residencies at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and he is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

Abdel H. Elhoushy, M.D.

Dr.Elhoushy received his doctorate degree from the Alexandria School of Medicine in Egypt,wherehe also completed an internship. He completed a general surgery residencywith the Maadi Hospital in Cairo, Egypt followed by a cardiac surgery residency with the Nasser Institute Hospital in Cairo. He completed a transitional internship at the Louisiana State University in Shreveport followed by a Clinical Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery with the Brown Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island. Prior to joining the staff of anesthesiologists of Ocala Heart Institute, he completed a residency in anesthesiology and critical care with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. Dr. Elhoushy is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and is certified by the National board of Echocardiography for perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography.

Dr.Helfman is a boardcertified Invasive Cardiologist who trained at the New York UniversitySchool of Medicine graduating in 1980. He completed his internship and residencyin Internal Medicine at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. Hecompleted his fellowship in Clinical Cardiology at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. He is board certified with the American Board of Cardiovascular Disease and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Richard S. Blankenbaker, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Blankenbaker is a board certified Interventional Cardiologist who relocated in Stuart, FL in 2007 from Newport Beach, CA where he worked in private practice for seven years. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Florida and completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1991. He completed his Cardiology Fellowship training at the University of California, Irvine and Emory University. He is board certified with the American Board of Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Stephen E. McIntyre, M.D.

Dr. McIntyre earned his medical degree from George Washington University Medical School. District of Columbia and completed his internship and residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He has completed both an Interventional Cardiology fellowship and Cardiovascular Medicine fellowship at the University of Florida Gainesville, Florida.
