Martin Memorial Goes Smoke-Free
Martin Memorial goes smoke-free. Each year, tobacco use is linked to tens of thousands of deaths in the United States. Diseases related to smoking, including heart disease and cancer, are the most preventable causes of death around the world.

That’s why numerous hospitals and healthcare providers across the country have instituted smoke-free workplaces – about 30 in Florida have already implemented the policy, while more than 40 others in the state are working towards it. And starting Oct. 1, Martin Memorial will join them in an effort to create the healthiest patient care environment possible.

Learn more about Martin Memorial's tobacco-free policy and smoking cessation programs.

Fleet Feet Run Raises $6,125 for Heart Center
Run raises $6,125 for heart center. The second-annual Fleet Feet Run for Your Heart 5K drew a big crowd in February, featuring hundreds of people willing to use their feet to help heal hearts in the community.

That effort paid dividends: In June, Fleet Feet-Stuart owners Susan and Al Hastings presented a check for $6,125 to the Martin Memorial Foundation. Those funds will benefit the Frances Langford Heart Center at Martin Memorial.

Quitting Smoking Has Immediate Benefits
Most people know that in the long term, quitting smoking offers enormous health benefits.

But within weeks--and even hours--after quitting smoking, your body has already shown health improvements.

See the immediate benefits of quitting smoking.

Tips for Quitting Smoking
Tips for quitting smoking. Quitting smoking is a gift to yourself, one of the best things you can do to keep your heart disease from getting worse. Smoking reduces oxygen flow to your heart, speeds the buildup of plaque, and increases your risk for heart attack. Quitting helps reduce smoking's harmful effects. You may have tried to quit before, but don’t give up. Try again. Many smokers try four or five times before they succeed.
