Cancer Patient Resources and Support

Getting through your cancer diagnosis and treatment is a difficult time. We're here to help you with support and resources. Our caring staff will help you learn about your cancer and its treatment, and help you find the resources you need. Our support services include:


  • Nutritional Counseling
    Good nutrition is especially important for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Eating right can help you build your strength and withstand the effects of your cancer and its treatment. The cancer center's nutritional counselor and registered dietitian can help you eat right.

  • Breast Health Navigator Program
    Martin Memorial's Breast Health Navigator program is designed to assist women who have been recently diagnosed, are already living with breast cancer or have had a recurrence of the disease. The program helps women cope with the anxiety of being diagnosed with cancer, provides information and resources, decreases barriers to services and seeks to expedite access to care.

  • Lung Cancer Navigator Program
    For patients with lung cancer, every day can be a fight for survival. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death for both men and women in the United States--according to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 160,390 deaths and 218,890 new diagnoses were estimated for 2007. Martin Memorial's Lung Cancer Navigator program is designed to assist patients who have been recently diagnosed, are already living with lung cancer or have had a recurrence of the disease. The program helps patients cope with the anxiety of being diagnosed with cancer, provides information and resources, decreases barriers to services and seeks to expedite access to care.

  • Social Services
    A licensed clinical social worker is an integral part of your healthcare team at the cancer center, collaborating with your treatment experts to help them understand your individual situation. Our social worker will also help with the psychosocial and spiritual concerns of you and your family, and respect your personal dignity by providing care focused on your specific needs.   • Support Groups & Educational Programs
    Several cancer support groups meet at the cancer center. Educational lectures and screenings are also held throughout the year. For information, call (772) 223-5945, ext. 3719, or visit our calendar to look for

  • Patient Resource Center
    Our Patient Resource Center is a library of books, videos, free publications, computer resources and information on cancer-related organizations. Located on the second floor of the cancer center, the resource center includes a comfortable, quiet area for research, computer access and reading. The center is open during normal business hours to anyone who wants to learn about cancer and its treatment. Our volunteers and staff will help you find the information you need.


  • Molly's House
    Molly's House provides overnight lodging close to the cancer center. It is available for any family who has a loved one receiving care at Martin Memorial.

    There are many Web sites with excellent information and resources for cancer patients and their families. You can find information about diagnoses and treatments; services such as transportation, pain medications, wigs and lodging; clinical research trials; and more.
