Robert and Carol Weissman Cancer Center

Fear is the natural response to cancer.

HOPE is the better one.

Some of us will experience the anguish of being diagnosed with cancer. All of us know someone who has. How Martin Memorial responds to cancer is a reason for hope.

Patients find hope in more than the skills of our physicians and the care of a comprehensive cancer care team. Our partnership with the eminent Moffitt Cancer Center gives patients access to genetic screening for early diagnosis and to clinical trials and new research protocols.

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy at our Stuart and St. Lucie West facilities helps lessen their fears.

One need not understand fully how our people and partnerships and technologies create hope. What matters is knowing where you can find it.

About the Robert and Carol Weissman Cancer Center

Unlike other communities of our size, the Robert and Carol Weissman Cancer Center at Martin Memorial provides exceptional cancer treatment services to patients and their families close to home. Since 1998, the cancer center has combined medical expertise with advanced technology to fight this disease. Some of the very best treatments for cancer are available on our campus, and our affiliation with H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa allows us to collaborate with the very best doctors and access the latest research, drug protocols and treatments. Moffitt is the only center in Florida to be accredited by the National Cancer Institute.

We understand that cancer can be stressful for you and your family. Each cancer patient is unique, and our compassionate team works together in developing an individual treatment plan. Throughout your treatment at the cancer center, our specialists will be here to help you with your medical and emotional needs.

Our team of physicians and staff treat more than 1,100 new patients each year. This extensive experience means we have the knowledge and practice to provide the best treatment.

Martin Memorial's cancer care is on par with many of the nation's top treatment providers. Many of our patients choose to stay close to home to receive the best in cancer treatments, finding it is not necessary to travel far away to receive excellent cancer care.

Our Services

We offer the most technologically advanced cancer treatments close to home. You'll find our staff to be truly caring and compassionate, and we hope you'll come to feel as if we're part of your family. Our advanced services include:

  • Surgery
Martin Memorial staff work closely with surgeons who perform cancer-related surgery. Please visit Martin Memorial's Physician Directory to find a surgeon.

  • Chemotherapy & Infusion Suite
Chemotherapy, or medical oncology, is the treatment of cancer using medicine. It can be used alone or in conjunction with radiation therapy. Chemotherapy and medical infusions are administered in our Infusion Suite overlooking the St. Lucie River.

  • Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy is the primary treatment method for many types of cancer. Martin Memorial offers the most advanced types of radiation therapy, including Trilogy Treatment, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy and MammoSite breast cancer treatment. Later this year, the cancer center will soon be able to offer patients the nation's most advanced stereotactic radiosurgery, Trilogy Tx.

  • Cancer Clinical Research Trials
Martin Memorial offers a number of clinical trials for patient participation to test new treatments compared to standard regimens. Clinical trials are available through membership with the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), Moffit Cancer Center and pharmaceutical companies.

  • Genetic Screening for Cancer Risk
Genetic testing can help you determine important hereditary factors to forecast your risk for certain cancers. Martin Memorial provides genetic screening for breast, ovarian and colorectal cancers and melanoma. A quick questionnaire can help you determine if you should seek genetic testing.

  • Cancer Registry
Much of what can be learned about cancer can be obtained by gathering and recording information about cancer patients. The Martin Memorial Cancer Registry compiles statistical data about patients’ cancers, as well as certain benign tumors. This data is used for research, education, and continuity and improvement of patient care.
