Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider Course

Course Objectives

The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS-HCP) course is designed to teach the skills of adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for victims of all ages, use of an AED, relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients, including in-hospital and out-of hospital settings.

At the end of the course the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the links in the AHA Chain of Survival
  • Describe the steps of CPR
  • Describe the signs of 5 major emergencies in adults
  • Describe strategies to prevent sudden infant death syndrome in infants and injuries in children
  • Demonstrate skills using an adult, child, and infant mannequin


Who Should Take This Course

This course is designed for RNs, GNs, LPNs, paramedics, physicians, CRNAs, pharmacists, cardio/pulmonary, radiology technician staff and other healthcare professionals


Class Fees

If this certification is required for your job, and you register for the class using this website, your department will pay the class fees. A manager's signature is not required.

If this course is NOT required for your job, or is only required for float status, contact (772) 223-5945, ext. 4178. If you work in an area that does not require BLS, you will be expected to pay the fees at the time you pick up your course materials (see below for pickup information). Fees are payable to Martin Memorial Health Systems, Medical Library, 200 S.E. Hospital Ave., Stuart, FL 34995.

Initial Certification
Associates - $25 (book loan available)
Non-Associates - $50 (book included)

Recertification
Associates - no charge (book loan available)
Non-Associates - $50 (book included)

PLEASE NOTE: Effective April 12, 2009--Martin Memorial Health Systems will no longer pay for classes attended offsite (outside) of Martin Memorial Health Systems. Associates who choose to take an offsite course will be required to pay and register through the outside provider directly.


Deadlines and Cancellations

Pre-reqistration is required for this class. Registration must be completed one week prior to class start date. Refunds will be issued only if cancellation is made one week before the class start date.

There are NO REFUNDS FOR NO-SHOWS! You must notify the Learning & O.D. Dept. if you are unable to attend. It is your responsibility to confirm your status prior to class.


Class Materials

All attendees must sign out a book at least one week prior to the beginning of course at the Medical Library, on the first floor of Martin Memorial Medical Center, across from Conference Room B. Pre-course work is required! You cannot be admitted to class without your book.

Associates, please return your loaned book within two weeks after completion of the class, or the $25 book fee will be deducted from your next paycheck, unless you report extenuating circumstances.
