About the Martin Memorial Auxiliary
The Martin Memorial Auxiliary is an organization with a rich heritage of volunteer support for one of our community’s most important resources, Martin Memorial Health Systems.
The Martin Memorial Auxiliary (originally called the Woman’s Auxiliary) was established in 1942, not long after Martin County Hospital opened in 1939. Today, the Auxiliary not only supports the original hospital (which has certainly grown!), but all of Martin Memorial Health Systems’ facilities on the Treasure Coast.
Today’s Auxiliary is made up of men and women from all walks of life and almost every occupation. Our volunteers are retired or working adults, college students and teenagers seeking to give back to their community. The Martin Memorial Auxiliary is one of the largest auxiliaries in the state of Florida, and has:
- More than 800 volunteers
- Almost 200,000 volunteer hours contributed annually
- More than $18 million dollars worth of service contributed to Martin Memorial Health Systems
The Auxiliary not only provides volunteer services, but also focuses on philanthropic contributions to the health system as one of its core mission values. Revenue-generating volunteer activities fund contributions to Martin Memorial facilities and programs that support the health system. The Auxiliary recently pledged $1 million to Martin Memorial’s open-heart program.
The Martin Memorial Auxiliary is a member of the Association of Florida Healthcare Auxilians/Volunteers.

Why Volunteer?
Martin Memorial’s volunteers experience the “gift of giving” every day. The contributions of volunteers enrich the quality of care provided by the Associates at Martin Memorial. The Auxiliary organization, some 800 strong (but always in need of new volunteers!) contributes to the health system in a variety of ways.
Volunteers contribute a minimum of four hours per week. Our volunteers find their experience very rewarding, and many have served for a number of years and have given many thousands of hours of service.
Those who volunteer provide “Hope at Every Turn” for the patients and families whom they serve.
“Auxiliary members gain a new family of like-minded friends who often have the same interests,” said Ray Phillips, an Auxilian. “Also, it is rewarding to help fill a need in another person’s life. It gives us a real sense of purpose. I believe our lives are extended by volunteering.”

The Auxiliary’s Focus
The Martin Memorial Auxiliary focuses its efforts to support the hospital’s mission of providing access to the very best healthcare services delivered with compassion, pride and a caring spirit.
The Auxiliary and its volunteers are proud of their contribution to the health system. The system’s two hospitals—Martin Memorial Medical Center and Martin Memorial Hospital South—are four-time national winners of the Top 100 Hospitals recognition, and the entire health system is a five-time winner of the Top 100 Integrated Health System recognition. Martin Memorial has also been named a four-time winner of the national Top 20 Large Community Hospitals. We are proud to know our work helps Martin Memorial achieve these recognitions.
Auxiliary Priorities
To help Martin Memorial achieve its mission, the Auxiliary focuses on these priorities:
- Patient Services. There are many opportunities within the health system to assist with patient care.
- Financial Assistance. The Auxiliary provides donations for the procurement of new and advanced healthcare technology, and provides scholarship funds to area students.
- Community Relations. We help to advance the community’s awareness of the breadth and quality of services provided by Martin Memorial.
